NOTE:

During the late 70's and through into the early 80's, Stereophonic HiFi played an important role in the development of dancehall. Their main deejay in these formative years was Welton Irie and Maddo. With Welton and Madoo at the controls the sounds popularity continued to grow and another piece of the jigsaw fell into place with the emergence of deejay General Echo. He developed his own jokes mixed with a penchant for slack lyrics style. Echo’s skills on the microphone combined with the vocals of Madoo, unique singer proved to be a big hit with the dancehall massive.

It’s the first of two soundclashes in a week at the Tivoli Centre between Stereophonic and King Sturgav and all the big guns are out for Stereophonic. “Ladies and Gentlemen, we regret to announce the death of King Sturgav Hi Fi, who died Tuesday 12th of July 1979, who died from a overdose champion”. So says General Echo talk over nine-night on “Burial” riddim. Tape quality is so so. But still great session!!

NOTE:

In late 1980's, Glen Augustus Holness aka Nitty Gritty moved to live in London before relocating to New York City, where he continued to record.

Stereophonic Sound from Manchester, UK, started in the late 1980's,  owned and managed by Tappa Dan. Took part in the UK Cup clash in 1992 and also the UK Cup clash in 1993. They have Michael Prophet - Nitty Gritty combination dubplates. There is no information about Imperial Majesty. The dance took place at Sheffield, UK.  All artists and crew make big respect with Jamaican big artist. Listen Nitty Gritty's 17min. long session (Pt.1) and "Sweet Drems"  (Pt.2) !

Sadly, on 24 June 1991, he was shot dead in front of Super Power Record Shop in Brooklyn, New York at the age of 34. A big tragedy.

NOTE:

Brigadier Jerry, given name is Robert Russell, is an older brother of Sister Nancy. He came to prominence in the 1980s on sound system Jah Love Muzik. His classic tune call "JahLoveMusic" is a celebration of the power and importance of music, particularly the Rub-a-Dub sound that JahLoveMusic represents. The song emphasizes that Jahlovemuzik is the best sound, far superior to all other sounds that are likened to "mickey mouse". The lyrics suggest that the Rub-a-Dub sound is able to bring people of all colors and backgrounds together, uniting them in dance and song.

This time he opened a Rub-a-Dub master class in NYC. The "teacher" is indeed  "daddy" U-Roy, with many  U-Roy's greatest student; a stable which includes Josie Wales, Charlie Chaplin, Rankin Joe, Sister Carol and Early B.

Many fantastic combination appear there. Sister Carol declares in high spirits. "Jamaican people dem ever fearless. Jamaican people dem ever well dress.  Jamaican people dem have high chess.  The majority of dem of a God interest. Dem cultural, natural, , original, innovative, creative, progressive,  dialectic, dull mind it!"

Nuff vibes. Best quality sound. Must listen!

NOTE:

Originally a sound system in Kingston Jamaica Black Scorpio started out in 1970, putting on parties and later talent shows and sound clashes.  Many artists cut their clashing teeth at Scorpio events, artists such as Yellowman, Sassafrass, General Trees.

Moving into production and recordings in the '80s and still helmed by Maurice Johnson (aka Jack Scorpio) Black Scorpio became an originator in the digital dancehall sound, with artists like Courtney Melody, General Trees, Papa San, Pan Head and Frankie Paul.

This tape is the dance of golden '80s. Scorpio crew wid nuff guest artists. Nuff lyrics, nuff vibes!
